Frequently asked questions

FAQs while in the program
Should I take a Final Exam or write a thesis?

We usually advise students to choose the option of a Final Exam rather than writing a thesis if they intend on finishing their degree in one year. Writing a thesis usually requires at least another summer and, more often than not, another semester for completion.
You should have a good reason for choosing to write a thesis and one good reason would be if you were considering a future Ph.D. In Israel, this requires a thesis and in many countries outside of Israel it is recommended as both an academic experience and as a basis for application to a doctorate program. Another, more personal, reason may be if you are very enthusiastic about a specific topic and/or supervisor. In all cases, however, we recommend consulting with the director of the program, and the person who may serve as your advisor before you come to a decision.

What other courses may I take outside of POC?

Students may take up to two undergraduate (B.A.) courses with the OSP program. Please note, however, that the OSP schedule differs from that of POC. Students may also take courses in other departments (both B.A. and M.A. levels) if their Hebrew is good enough (the only department with courses instructed in English is the Foreign Languages Department). For this, a student is first required to receive permission from the director of the program and the professor teaching the course.

What if I am not able to finish on time?

You may continue with the program for another year. However, you will be required to register with the university again and pay certain fees. Please check with the POC administrator or the Billing Office regarding any additional payments required.

What are the minimum passing grades required in the program?

The minimum grade required to receive credit in a regular course (a non-language course) is 65. A language course requires a minimum of 65. If you opt for thesis writing you must have grades of above 90 in at least two courses (excluding language).
